The concept of Divine Therapy comes from the teachings of Thomas Keating. He defines it as a paradigm in which the spiritual journey is presented as a form of psychotherapy designed to heal the emotional wounds of early childhood and our mechanisms for coping with them. Most of us, whether we have been doing Centering Prayer for a long time or are fairly new, have experienced healing that may be attributed to the Divine Therapist. This retreat will give you an opportunity to experience Divine Therapy and to share with others your experience of healing and transformation. By the end of the retreat participants will be able to answer questions such as:
In-person sessions will led by led by Jenny Adamson and broadcast by Zoom. Our Fall Retreat will include time for personal reflection, group Centering Prayer, and small group sharing. Silence will be observed from Friday evening after dinner until Sunday lunch. We will be upheld in our journey by the restful quiet and beauty of the Franciscan Retreat and Spirituality Center in Prior Lake, Minnesota. |
Jenny Adamson started a daily practice of Centering Prayer in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 2000. She served as chapter coordinator, became a commissioned presenter, and served on the Presenter Formation Service team.
Jenny has served retreats in the Midwest, at Snowmass, in Iceland and in Ireland. She is a Living Flame presenter and is finishing her sixth and final year on the Contemplative Outreach Governing Board. She serves on the 12 Step Outreach Service team and has been in recovery for 39 years. After her retirement as a school counselor, she and her husband, John, moved to Carbondale, CO, near Snowmass. Their family includes two sons and their partners, a beloved granddaughter, and two dogs. Divine therapy is an extraordinary project. Only God could have thought it up, and only God can persuade people to do it.
~Thomas Keating, The Human Condition The purpose of Divine Therapy is the healing of the roots of our problems, and to transform our attitudes and (ultimately) to change us into the divine way of being human. ~Thomas Keating, Divine Therapy and Addiction |
